Too many times do we see slates laid incorrectly. All natural slates should be graded into thickness's with the thick ones toward the bottom. This means the slates are laid side by side with a slate of the same thickness and therefore lay flat. Head lap and battening should be worked out correctly for the size of the slate being used and slates should be laid with a slight gap so water is not trapped causing the slates to split in freezing conditions.
